Safety First, Then Healing

In 2019, I hit a turning point in my healing.

I was under immense stress personally (if you’ve ever remodeled a home, you know). And nothing I reached for seemed to work. None of my trusty tools — journaling, meditation, affirmations — had a lasting impact. I’d feel a moment of relief, but the old patterns kept looping back (sometimes stronger).

Then I learned this truth that changed everything:
💡 Your nervous system cannot heal or reprogram when it’s in an activated state.

If you’re in fight, flight, or freeze, your body is only focused on survival. It’s not available to learn new patterns, release old ones, or integrate healing.

So what did I do differently?
I prioritized safety. Safety in my body, not in my head. Through breathwork, grounding, and regulating my nervous system, I began to feel what safety actually was. From that place, the tools I loved — journaling, meditation, reflection — could work their magic in a lasting way.

This is why regulation is so important.
It’s not just about calming down in the moment. It’s about creating the conditions where healing can happen at the nervous system level. Until the body feels safe, change can’t land. It just bounces off.

If you’ve been feeling stuck with your healing, if things don’t feel like they’re moving forward — this could be your missing piece.

I love teaching this to 1:1 coaching clients. Once they learn how to create safety in their body, everything shifts — relationships, boundaries, self-trust, and most of all, their ability to repattern their nervous system.

When you’re ready, try sitting with this reflection:
➤ If your nervous system felt safe, what could finally move forward for you? What healing might become possible?

And If you’d like support with this in my private coaching space, I’d love to welcome you in. You can learn more and schedule a free connection call here: Explore Inward.
